ceann MAIREAD LOUGHNANE DOHERTY was born near Nenagh, County Tipperary, Ireland. She attended Laurel Hill Convent School, Limerick, where she began her studies in Irish Harp. In 1968 Mairead received first class honors in the senior Irish Harp exam from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin. Since then she has traveled in Europe and North America performing with her Irish Harp and singing in both English and Irish. In 1971 Mairead moved to the U.S. and spent her first three years in Alaska. She is now settled in the Greater Boston area with her family where she has been a fixture on the Irish music scene for the past thirty years. Mairead has presented programs of entertainment and educational focus at the Museum of Fine Arts, the New England Conservatory, Boston Public Library, Harvard University and Boston College. She has performed in Sanders Theater, Cambridge, as a guest soloist with the Christmas Revels and with The Chieftains at Symphony Hall in Boston. She continues to perform in concert and for private functions. Additionally, she teaches Irish Harp to a few selected students. At the Parliament of World Religions in Chicago in 1993, Mairead was engaged to play meditative music on the Harp for the 250 leaders of the World's major religions gathered there. This experience precipitated Mairead's work in Celtic Spirituality --- her lived experience out of that tradition. She has led workshops and presented talks on various aspects of Celtic Spirituality, most recently at Princeton University, New Jersey for the national Conference of Fellowship In Prayer. Integrating her harp music and song in her presentations, Mairead is in demand for liturgical music and spiritual events throughout the country.
Recordings produced by Mairead on her own label, Anam-Chara Records, include:

"The Celtic Christian Era in Poems, Song & Prayer" a day of prayer through the poems, prayers and songs of Ireland and Scotland

"The Celtic Christian Year in Poetry, Prayer & Song" the Christian Liturgical year with contemporary and ancient poems and prayers from the Celtic tradition.
